Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions
Which "course catalog" should I check to follow the courses I need to take?

You need to follow the courses in the Program Catalog announced in the year you first took courses from the department (or the year after prep school if you attended it). You can find course catalogs on the university, faculty, and department websites on a yearly basis.

What do the course codes and names in the course catalog mean?

For courses opened across the university, such as "MTF100 Introduction to Design", the MTF100 part represents the course code. The Letters in the code indicate the department offering the course.

  • If the number in the code is an odd number, it indicates Fall semester courses; if even, it indicates Spring semester courses.
  • Courses with 100 code represent courses specific to 1st-year students or general introductory courses.
  • 200 code indicates 2nd-year courses, 300 code indicates 3rd-year courses, and 400 code indicates 4th-year courses.

During registration, students are expected to pay attention to selecting courses opened specifically for their year. We strictly request 1st and 2nd-year students not to choose 3rd and 4th-year level courses. We wish everyone a successful semester.

What does it mean to be eligible for graduation?

To graduate, you must have successfully completed a total of 240 ECTS credits. This 240 credits includes the total required credits (and number, if applicable) for Compulsory, Vocational Elective (MS), and Elective (S) courses.

Things to consider for graduation:

  • Check the course catalog announced the year you first started the department to see how many credits of MS and S courses you need to take. For example, if 30 credits of MS courses are expected, at least 30 credits of MS courses must be successfully completed on your transcript.
  • Your graduation procedures will not start until you complete your Internship responsibility.
  • If you have any courses ending with FF (Fail), DZ (Not Attended), or ÇK (Withdrawn) grades on your transcript, you must postpone your graduation and successfully complete these courses.
What are YÖK compulsory and elective courses?

For graduation, students are expected to select and succeed in YÖK compulsory courses and one YÖK elective course.

  • YÖK Compulsory Courses: Foreign Language courses, Turkish Language courses, and Ataturk's Principles and History of Revolution courses.
  • YÖK Elective Courses: You can find the list on the faculty website, course catalogs, and announcements.
How can I substitute a failed course with another one?

You can substitute a Vocational Elective (MS) or Elective (S) course that you have previously failed with another course of the same status that you have successfully completed. Doing this will speed up your graduation process. You can do this via the Student Information System or by applying with a petition to Student Affairs.

Which foreign language courses should I choose?
  • Students who did not receive or failed preparatory education: It is mandatory to take ING187 (Fall) and ING188 (Spring) coded foreign language courses.
  • Students who successfully completed preparatory education: It is mandatory to take ING225 or ING325 (depending on the student's level) in the Fall semester and ING226 or ING326 in the Spring semester. (A student taking ING225 in Fall must take ING226 in Spring; a student taking ING325 must take ING326).
Where and how are "English", "Turkish Language", and "Ataturk's Principles and History of Revolution" courses conducted?

Compulsory courses like ING187-188, TÜR125-126, and TAR165-166 (especially for 1st years) do not appear in your weekly schedule because these courses are not taught in a classroom on a specific day and time.

  • You can only see these courses in the list showing the courses you are taking during the semester below your course schedule.
  • You must follow the university and faculty announcements regarding these courses.
  • Course books will be shared as digital copies. You are required to study for these courses using the books and take the exams by following the announced dates, times, and links. Grading will be based on your exam success.
I selected less than 30 ECTS credits, what should I do?

There is no problem with your course selection. However, it is recommended to take a total of 30 to 34 credits in a semester.

Since you selected less than 30 credits for the semester, even if you are successful in all the courses you take, you will not be eligible to receive a "High Honor" or "Honor" certificate.

I selected more than 36 credits, what should I do in this case?

It is recommended to take between 30 and 34 credits in total per semester. Taking excess courses may lower your success rate. It is advised to drop extra MS and S courses.

The optimum credit value calculated based on workload for a student to be successful in Turkey and European standards is 30 ECTS. Taking courses above this will decrease your general success. Successful and paced students can base this on 34 credits. To ensure efficiency in assignment/project development time due to heavy course load, our suggestion is to take between 30-34 credits.

What are prerequisite courses?

All project courses carried out in the faculty are designed to be prerequisites for each other. The list of these courses is available in the announcements at mtf.eskisehir.edu.tr.

Students who register for a project course despite not meeting the prerequisite will be identified in the screening after the Add-Drop week and will be dropped from the relevant course by the Faculty Administrative Board decision. In this case, the student will not be able to select a new course to complete their missing credits as the course selection period has expired. To avoid this situation, we recommend students who do not meet the prerequisite to drop the project course and select other courses during the add-drop week.

It says the course quota is full during registration, what should I do?

Courses accept only a certain number of students. Students can request an increase in the quota for the courses they want to take. To do this, fill out the "quota increase petition" found under the student tab at mtf.eskisehir.edu.tr and submit it to the relevant department head:

  • If the course is a compulsory course, the quota will be increased.
  • If the course is a vocational elective (MS) or elective (S) course, the Department Heads will increase it if deemed appropriate; if not, the student must take another vocational elective or elective course.
I want to take courses from an upper year. What do you recommend?

Across the university, course codes indicate the class level of the course (100 code: 1st year, 200 code: 2nd year, etc.). During registration, students are expected to pay attention to selecting courses opened specifically for their own class. We strongly recommend 1st and 2nd-year students not to choose 3rd and 4th-year level courses.

Should I register for the internship course?
  • Students who have already done their internship and had it processed on their transcript do not need to take the relevant internship course.
  • Students who have done their internship but have not processed it on their transcript must take the course.
  • Students who will do their internship during the semester must have three free weekdays from classes. In this case, the student can take the course.
  • Regarding taking extra Vocational Elective (MS) courses: The student should check the catalog of their entry year and compare the expected total MS credits/number with the MS credits/number they have successfully completed on their transcript. If there are missing MS credits, they should take extra MS courses. If there are no missing credits, there is no need to take extra MS courses.
I am getting a warning that I need to pay tuition fees for registration, what should I do?

Students must pay tuition fees for the year they repeat preparatory education or after spending 8 semesters (4 years) in the department. The system will allow registration after the fee is paid.

Transfer students begin paying tuition fees after completing 8 semesters, calculated by adding the semesters studied at their previous institution to the semesters studied at the faculty.

I received a maximum duration warning, what should I do?

Students approaching the limit within the maximum periods applied by YÖK (14 semesters) must have successfully completed 170 credits and must have successfully completed a course from the final year.

  • These students will be given the right to take Additional Exams twice. Student rights will be suspended, but they will have the right to take additional exams.
  • Students who are successful at the end of the additional exams graduate. The registration of students who fail the additional exams will be deleted.
  • You can learn detailed information about additional exams by reading the regulations.
I am a newly registered "Transfer Student", which courses should I register for?

COURSE TRANSFER FORMS must be prepared for the equivalence procedures of the courses you took at your old institution. The courses you need to take are those not found equivalent in the course transfer form and listed in the course catalog.

  • Quota increases will be made for transfer students in compulsory courses as per regulations.
  • If you experience technical problems with your course registration, it is possible to come to the Dean's Office Student Affairs and resolve these issues face-to-face with a petition. In some cases, courses for transfer students can be registered manually by student affairs.
  • You can check your registration and student certificate via e-government and print it out.
